Gene : SCY2 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT2G31530 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2065868
Name  ? SECY HOMOLOG 2 Brief Description  SecY protein transport family protein
TAIR Computational Description  SecY protein transport family protein;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  Encodes a component of the thylakoid-localized Sec system involved in the translocation of cytoplasmic proteins into plastid. Loss-of-function mutations result in arrest at the globular stage and embryo lethality.
TAIR Short Description  SecY protein transport family protein
TAIR Aliases  EMB2289, SCY2

Type Comment Proteins
SCY2_ARATH function Involved in protein export. Probably interacts with other proteins to allow the postimport or conservative sorting pathway for inner membrane proteins in plastids. Central subunit of the protein translocation channel SecYE. Consists of two halves formed by TMs 1-5 and 6-10. These two domains form a lateral gate at the front which open onto the bilayer between TMs 2 and 7, and are clamped together by SecE at the back. The channel is closed by both a pore ring composed of hydrophobic SecY resides and a short helix (helix 2A) on the extracellular side of the membrane which forms a plug (By similarity).
SCY2_ARATH similarity Belongs to the SecY/SEC61-alpha family.
SCY2_ARATH subcellular location Predominantly localized to envelope membranes.
SCY2_ARATH tissue specificity Ubiquitous.
