Gene : FIM5 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT5G35700 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2177291
Name  ? FIMBRIN5 Brief Description  fimbrin-like protein 2
TAIR Computational Description  fimbrin-like protein 2;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  Encodes FIMBRIN5, an actin bundling factor required for pollen germination and pollen tube growth. Different members of the fimbrin/plastin family have diverged biochemically during evolution to generate either tight actin bundles or loose networks with distinct biochemical and biophysical properties. FIM4 generates both actin bundles and branched actin filaments whereas FIM5 only generates actin bundles.
TAIR Short Description  fimbrin-like protein 2
TAIR Aliases  FIM2, FIM5

Curated comments from UniProt

Type Comment Proteins
FIMB5_ARATH function Cross-links actin filaments (F-actin) in a calcium independent manner. Induces the formation of actin bundles. Stabilizes and prevents F-actin depolymerization mediated by latrunculin B (LatB).
FIMB5_ARATH tissue specificity Expressed in mature pollen.
