Protein kinase superfamily protein;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary
Chloroplast thylakoid protein kinase STN8 is specific in phosphorylation of N-terminal threonine residues in D1, D2 and CP43 proteins, and Thr-4 in PsbH protein of photosystem II. Phosphorylation of Thr-4 in the wild type required both light and prior phosphorylation at Thr-2.
Light-dependent serine/threonine protein kinase that specifically phosphorylates N-terminal threonine residues in psbA/D1, psbD/D2, psbC/CP43 and psbH, which are components of the core antenna complex of photosystem II. Phosphorylation of PSII core components facilitates the exchange of chlorophyll proteins between the grana and the stroma lamellae. Also involved in the phosphorylation of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaS).
