Gene : ACA1 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT3G52720 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2083213
Name  ? alpha carbonic anhydrase 1 Brief Description  alpha carbonic anhydrase 1
TAIR Computational Description  alpha carbonic anhydrase 1;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  Encodes an alpha carbonic anhydrase (CAH1) located in the chloroplast stroma. Most chloroplast proteins are encoded by the nuclear genome and imported with the help of sorting signals that are intrinsic parts of the polypeptides. CAH1 takes an alternative route through the secretory pathway, and becomes N-glycosylated before entering the chloroplast. Glycosylation and intra-molecular disulfide bridge fromation are necessary for the correct folding, ER export, trafficking and activity of the protein.
TAIR Short Description  alpha carbonic anhydrase 1
TAIR Aliases  ACA1, ATACA1, CAH1

Type Comment Proteins
ATCA1_ARATH ATCA1_ARATH-3 ATCA1_ARATH-2 function Reversible hydration of carbon dioxide.
ATCA1_ARATH ATCA1_ARATH-3 ATCA1_ARATH-2 similarity Belongs to the alpha-class carbonic anhydrase family.
ATCA1_ARATH ATCA1_ARATH-3 ATCA1_ARATH-2 subcellular location When glycosylated and folded, targeted to the chloroplast via a protein-targeting pathway that uses the secretory system via the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi apparatus.
ATCA1_ARATH ATCA1_ARATH-3 ATCA1_ARATH-2 tissue specificity Strongly expressed in aerial tissues including leaves, stems, flowers and siliques.
