| Description | This entry includes PglZ, an alkaline phosphatase-like protein associated with BREX (bacteriophage exclusion) type 1 systems [ ]. This system provides immunity against bacteriophage, it allows phage adsorption but blocks phage DNA replication. PglZ is predicted to have a phosphatase activity and is described as probable antitoxin component of a type II toxin-antitoxin (TA) system, that inhibits the toxic activity of its cognate toxin PglX [].
