| Description | Virion protein involved in the interaction with bacterial pili, which are retractile filaments that protrude from bacteria with 2 membranes (Gram-negative bacteria). Binding to the pilus is followed by retraction of the pilus, which translocates the bound virion to the bacterial surface and allows subsequent viral genome penetration into host cytoplasm. Bacteriophages M13, f1, fd, R17, Qbeta, Pf1, Pf3, phiKMV or phi6 for example utilize the host cell pilus as an attachment structure |
