Protein Domain : IPR005932

Description  This entry represents a group of 1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenases (RocA) from Bacillales [ ] and other bacteria []. They are related to delta-1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenase (; ) [ ], which is an aldehyde dehydrogenase that catalyses the oxidation of glutamate semialdehyde to glutamate [], utilizing NAD+ as the electron acceptor. In some bacteria, the two enzymes are fused into the bifunctional flavoenzyme, proline utilization A (PutA) [ , , ]. In this entry, monofunctional enzyme sequences such as seen in the Bacillus subtilis RocA P5CDH are also present []. These enzymes play important roles in cellular redox control, superoxide generation, and apoptosis. Name  1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenase
