Gene : KPL A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT5G63720 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2160659
Name  ? KOKOPELLI Brief Description  kokopelli
TAIR Computational Description  kokopelli;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  Encodes KOKOPELLI (KPL). kokopelli (kpl) mutants display frequent single-fertilization events indicating that KPL is involved in double fertilization. KPL and an inversely transcribed gene, ARIADNE14 (ARI14), which encodes a putative ubiquitin E3 ligase, generate a sperm-specific natural cis-antisense siRNA pair. In the absence of KPL, ARI14 RNA levels in sperm are increased and fertilization is impaired.
TAIR Short Description  kokopelli
TAIR Aliases  KPL

Proteins

Curated comments from UniProt

Type Comment Proteins
KPL_ARATH developmental stage During male gametophyte development, first observed in bicellular pollen, and accumulates gradually during pollen maturation in tricellular pollen and mature pollen.
KPL_ARATH function Positively regulates reproductive function by facilitating male gametophyte formation and double fertilization.
KPL_ARATH tissue specificity Mostly expressed in pollen and open flowers and, to a lower extent, in closed flowers.
