Gene : AT5G04500 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT5G04500 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2184347
Brief Description  glycosyltransferase family protein 47
TAIR Computational Description  glycosyltransferase family protein 47;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  Encodes a member of the CAZy Glycosyltransferase Family 64 that is involved in glycosylinositolphosphorylceramide and sphingolipid glycosylation. In mutants, seed germination was less sensitive to salt stress than in wild-type plants. [The protein was expected to be Golgi-localized based on function as well as the Golgi localization of its homolog GMT1. However, GFP-fusion proteins localized both to the ER and Golgi, and especially to ER when co-expressed with Golgi markers. Therefore, localization cannot confidently be defined. (pers. communication, J. Mortimer)]
TAIR Short Description  glycosyltransferase family protein 47
TAIR Aliases  GINT1

GINT1_ARATH function Glycosyltransferase that mediates the glycosylation of glycosylinositol phosphorylceramides (GIPCs), the major sphingolipids in the plasma membrane; acts as a HexN(Ac)-specific GIPC sugar transferase and accepts glucosamine (GlcN) and N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) as the sugar unit (PubMed:29760197). Responsible for the glycosylation of a subgroup of GIPCs found in seeds and pollen that contain GlcNAc and GlcN (GlcN(Ac)) (PubMed:29760197). Maybe involved in the maintenance of cell-cell adhesion (PubMed:29760197).
GINT1_ARATH pathway Sphingolipid metabolism.
GINT1_ARATH similarity Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 64 family.
GINT1_ARATH tissue specificity Specifically and highly expressed in developing embryos and mature seeds. Also detected at low levels in stigma and pollen.
