Gene : IRX9 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT2G37090 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2061748
Name  ? IRREGULAR XYLEM 9 Brief Description  Nucleotide-diphospho-sugar transferases superfamily protein
TAIR Computational Description  Nucleotide-diphospho-sugar transferases superfamily protein;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  The IRX9 gene encodes a putative family 43 glycosyl transferase. It was coordinately expressed with the cellulose synthase subunits during secondary cell wall formation. Cell wall analysis revealed a decrease in the abundance of xylan in the irx9 mutant, indicating that IRX9 is required for xylan synthesis. Mutants have irregular xylem phenotype suggesting a role in secondary cell wall biosynthesis.IRX9 was identified as MUCI65 in a reverse genetic screen for MUCILAGE-RELATED genes. Despite producing only a few seeds, the irx9-1 mutant displays normal mucilage properties.
TAIR Short Description  Nucleotide-diphospho-sugar transferases superfamily protein
TAIR Aliases  IRX9

Type Comment Proteins
IRX9_ARATH function Involved in the synthesis of the hemicellulose glucuronoxylan, a major component of secondary cell walls (PubMed:15980264, PubMed:16844780, PubMed:17322407, PubMed:17938130, PubMed:17944810, PubMed:20335400, PubMed:20424005). Xylan xylosyltransferase that acts cooperatively with IRX14 to achieve the successive addition of xylosyl residues during xylan backbone elongation (PubMed:22080591, PubMed:25118690).
IRX9_ARATH similarity Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 43 family.
IRX9_ARATH tissue specificity Expressed in developing interfascicular fibers, primary and secondary xylem in stems and developing secondary xylem in roots.
