Gene : PIN3 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT1G70940 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2013975
Name  ? PIN-FORMED 3 Brief Description  Auxin efflux carrier family protein
TAIR Computational Description  Auxin efflux carrier family protein;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  A regulator of auxin efflux and involved in differential growth. PIN3 is expressed in gravity-sensing tissues, with PIN3 protein accumulating predominantly at the lateral cell surface. PIN3 localizes to the plasma membrane and to vesicles. In roots, PIN3 is expressed without pronounced polarity in tiers two and three of the columella cells, at the basal side of vascular cells, and to the lateral side of pericycle cells of the elongation zone. PIN3 overexpression inhibits root cell growth. Protein phosphorylation plays a role in regulating PIN3 trafficking to the plasma membrane. The mRNA is cell-to-cell mobile.
TAIR Short Description  Auxin efflux carrier family protein
TAIR Aliases  ATPIN3, PIN3

Type Comment Proteins
PIN3_ARATH developmental stage Expressed during embryogenesis. Detected in the precursors of the columella root cells.
PIN3_ARATH function Acts as a component of the auxin efflux carrier; this activity is enhanced when activated by PID-mediated phosphorylation (PubMed:20439545, PubMed:35917926). Seems to be involved in the lateral auxin transport system and mediates tropic growth (PubMed:20439545). Binds auxins including indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) (PubMed:35917926). Coordinated polar localization of PIN3 is directly regulated by the vesicle trafficking process (PubMed:20439545).
PIN3_ARATH similarity Belongs to the auxin efflux carrier (TC 2.A.69.1) family.
PIN3_ARATH tissue specificity Predominantly expressed at the lateral side of shoot endodermis cells as well as root pericycle and columella cells.
