Gene : UPS5 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT1G26440 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2197995
Name  ? ureide permease 5 Brief Description  ureide permease 5
TAIR Computational Description  ureide permease 5;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  Encodes a ureide permease, uptake assays in yeast mutants indicated the longer splice variant is a cellular importer for allantoin, uracil and xanthine. Encodes 2 splice variants, UPS5L and UPS5S, which under nonstress conditions may function in allantoin degradation for nutrient recycling, whereas under stress, both genes may be involved in vesicular export allowing allantoin translocation from roots to shoots. The central loop of the protein faces the cytosol (ReTA).
TAIR Short Description  ureide permease 5
TAIR Aliases  ATUPS5, UPS5

UPS5_ARATH UPS5_ARATH-2 function Proton-coupled transporter that transports a wide spectrum of oxo derivatives of heterocyclic nitrogen compounds, including allantoin, uric acid and xanthine, but not adenine. Mediates transport of uracil and 5-fluorouracil (a toxic uracil analog).
UPS5_ARATH UPS5_ARATH-2 function Proton-coupled transporter that transports a wide spectrum of oxo derivatives of heterocyclic nitrogen compounds, including allantoin, xanthine and uracil.
F4IE73_ARATH A0A1P8ARD7_ARATH UPS5_ARATH B9DH85_ARATH A0A1P8ARD4_ARATH UPS5_ARATH-2 similarity Belongs to the plant ureide permease (TC 2.A.7.19) family.
UPS5_ARATH UPS5_ARATH-2 tissue specificity Expressed in lateral roots, rosette leaves, stems, stipules, flower stigma, pedicels and the connective tissue between pollen sacks.
