Gene : FOLK A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT5G58560 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2178768
Name  ? farnesol kinase Brief Description  Phosphatidate cytidylyltransferase family protein
TAIR Computational Description  Phosphatidate cytidylyltransferase family protein;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  FOLK is a farnesol kinase that can phosphorylate farnesol using an NTP donor. It can also phosphorylate geraniol, or geranylgeraniol, but it prefers farnesol in experiments performed using yeast membranes. folk loss-of-function mutants show ABA hypersensitivity in a seed germination assay and the mutants also exhibit abnormal flower development, including extra carpel formation, when subjected to water stress. The mRNA is cell-to-cell mobile.
TAIR Short Description  Phosphatidate cytidylyltransferase family protein
TAIR Aliases  FOLK

Type Comment Proteins
FOLK_ARATH function Kinase involved in negative regulation of abscisic acid (ABA) signaling. Substrate preference is farnesol >geraniol >geranylgeraniol, but has no activity with farnesyl phosphate. Can use CTP >ATP >GTP = UTP as phosphoryl donor.
FOLK_ARATH similarity Belongs to the polyprenol kinase family.
