Gene : ACL5 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT5G19530 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2180816
Name  ? ACAULIS 5 Brief Description  S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferases superfamily protein
TAIR Computational Description  S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferases superfamily protein;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  Encodes a spermine synthase. Required for internode elongation and vascular development, specifically in the mechanism that defines the boundaries between veins and nonvein regions. This mechanism may be mediated by polar auxin transport. Though ACL5 has been shown to function as a spermine synthase in E. coli, an ACL5 knockout has no effect on the endogenous levels of free and conjugated polyamines in Arabidopsis, suggesting that ACL5 may have a very specific or altogether different in vivo function.
TAIR Short Description  S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferases superfamily protein
TAIR Aliases  ACL5

Proteins

Curated comments from UniProt

Type Comment Proteins
ACL5_ARATH-3 ACL5_ARATH ACL5_ARATH-2 developmental stage Expressed throughout early globular-staged embryos and during embryogenesis.
ACL5_ARATH-3 ACL5_ARATH ACL5_ARATH-2 function Required for correct xylem specification through regulation of the lifetime of the xylem elements. Prevents premature death of the xylem vessel elements.
ACL5_ARATH-3 ACL5_ARATH ACL5_ARATH-2 similarity Belongs to the spermidine/spermine synthase family.
ACL5_ARATH-3 ACL5_ARATH ACL5_ARATH-2 tissue specificity Highly expressed in stem internodes and roots. Lower levels in young seedlings before flowering and rosette leaves. Expressed in the vascular tissues. Restricted to procambial and/or provascular cells during primary root development and early leaves development.
