Gene : RPS2 A. thaliana

DB identifier  ? AT4G26090 Secondary Identifier  ? locus:2005517
Name  ? RESISTANT TO P. SYRINGAE 2 Brief Description  NB-ARC domain-containing disease resistance protein
TAIR Computational Description  NB-ARC domain-containing disease resistance protein;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary  Encodes a plasma membrane protein with leucine-rich repeat, leucine zipper, and P loop domains that confers resistance to Pseudomonas syringae infection by interacting with the avirulence gene avrRpt2. RPS2 protein interacts directly with plasma membrane associated protein RIN4 and this interaction is disrupted by avrRpt2. The mRNA is cell-to-cell mobile.
TAIR Short Description  NB-ARC domain-containing disease resistance protein
TAIR Aliases  RPS2

Type Comment Proteins
RPS2_ARATH function Disease resistance (R) protein that specifically recognizes the AvrRpt2 type III effector avirulence protein from Pseudomonas syringae. Resistance proteins guard the plant against pathogens that contain an appropriate avirulence protein via an indirect interaction with this avirulence protein. That triggers a defense system including the hypersensitive response, which restricts the pathogen growth. Acts via its interaction with RIN4, and probably triggers the plant resistance when RIN4 is degraded by AvrRpt2.
RPS2_ARATH similarity Belongs to the disease resistance NB-LRR family.
RPS2_ARATH subcellular location Not a peripheral membrane protein. Has the biochemical properties of an integral membrane protein without an obvious integral membrane primary structure.
