2-oxoglutarate (2OG) and Fe(II)-dependent oxygenase superfamily protein;(source:Araport11)
TAIR Curator Summary
encodes a protein similar to 2-oxoacid-dependent dioxygenase. Expression is induced after 24 hours of dark treatment, in senescing leaves and treatment with exogenous photosynthesis inhibitor. Induction of gene expression was suppressed in excised leaves supplied with sugar. The authors suggest that the gene's expression pattern is responding to the level of sugar in the cell.
TAIR Short Description
2-oxoglutarate (2OG) and Fe(II)-dependent oxygenase superfamily protein
2-oxoglutarate-dependent dioxygenase catalyzing homoarginine 6-hydroxylation and arginine-5-hydroxylation thus producing 6-hydroxy-L-homoarginine and 5-hydroxy-L-arginine, respectively (PubMed:38619227). Guanidine (Gd) is in turn synthesized by the spontaneous conversion of 6-hydroxy-L-homoarginine and 5-hydroxy-L-arginine to (S)-2-amino-6-oxohexanoate (RHEA:79843) and L-glutamate 5-semialdehyde (RHEA:31527); guanidine is a nitrogen-rich compound that may serve as a defense or signaling substance (PubMed:38619227).
