The gene is widely expressed and NIG transcript levels do not rise in response to viral infection. This cytoplasmic protein does not directly interact with a viral movement protein (MP), but, it does promote the movement of NSP from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. Overexpression of NIG in Arabidopsis plants renders them more sensitive to geminivirus infection. |
