Title:Carrera Bergua:Functional genomics of shoot meristem dormancy.

Description:This experiment is an integral part of BBSRC Exploiting Genomics grant: 233/EGA16203. Functional genomics shoot meristem dormancy. Dormancy is an active state in which cell division is repressed. We are interested in the regulation of the transitions of dormancy and activity in shoot meristems in seeds. Abscisic acid (ABA) is involved in the dormancy process. Different general ABA biosynthesis and sensitivity mutants have been characterised in Arabidopsis showing reduced dormancy levels (aba1-1, abi1-1 and abi3-4) (Leon-kloosterziel et al 1996, Holdsworth et al 1999), viviparous fus3-8 mutant seeds (Baumlein et al 1994), and also seed-specific no dormant mutant seed rdo2 (koornneef et al 1996). We will compare the transcriptome of wildtype dormant seed with those of freshly harvested seed of the non-dormant mutants abi1-1, aba1-1, rdo2 and viviparous mutant seeds fus3-8 and abi3-4. This will allow us to distinguish germination-related genes from genes specifically expressed during seed dormancy.
