| Description: | My laboratory is interested in the pathways controlling meristem activity. We have identified a mutant that prolongs the transition from vegetative to reproductive growth although the onset of reproductive development is not delayed significantly. This mutant also has other phenotypes such as altered leaf morphology and altered development of cauline leaves. Growth arrests in the homozygous mutant during vegetative phase with a phenotype reminiscent of wuschel but without the repeated de-novo formation of meristems characteristic of the latter. This mutant was identified in an activation-tagged collection and the gene likely to be the cause of the phenotype is a likely transcription factor. Crosses of this line with other lines with defects in meristem control and patterning genes have just been set up. For this transcriptome experiment we would like to compare RNAs isolated from aerial tissues (entire shoots) of the wild-type background line with the same tissues from the mutant. The results from this experiment will allow us to better design experiments to pin down the function of the affected gene. |
