Title:Transcriptional analysis of Arabidopsis plants grown under defined nitrogen conditions

Description:Nitrogen (N) is the most important inorganic nutrient to plants. The production of high-yielding crops is associated with the application of a large quantity of N fertilizers at a substantial cost, and N pollution is becoming a threat to our global ecosystems. To understand more about the N response and regulation, we developed a growth system where N is the growth-limiting factor, and used an Arabidopsis whole genome array for a global evaluation of gene expression under different N conditions. Significantly differentially expressed genes under different degree of N stress or after different time frame of N induction were identified. They provided additional insights into candidate regulator genes of their coordinating the complex N responses of plants and the components of the N response mechanism. Putative N regulatory elements were also identified, and multiple transcription factor binding sites revealed a complex N regulatory network.
